Acceptable use

What may be sold here, and what gets a listing or an account removed.

Last updated 26 October 2026.

Who this applies to

Everyone who uses ElectroTickets: organisers who list events, the staff they invite, and buyers who hold tickets. A ticket is a licence to attend — it is not a guarantee that an event will go ahead, and it is not transferable into somebody else's name except through the sharing the platform itself offers.

What may not be listed

  • anything unlawful in South Africa, or an event that would require a permit the organiser does not hold;
  • weapons, ammunition or explosives, and events whose point is their use;
  • controlled or illegal substances, and smoking or vaping products contrary to the law;
  • counterfeit goods, and tickets that are not the organiser's own to sell;
  • gambling, lotteries and wagering of any kind;
  • adult content and adult performances;
  • content that incites violence or hatred, or that promotes a criminal organisation;
  • anything that takes money for a promise with no event behind it — a deposit scheme, a pyramid, an investment, or a sale dressed up as a ticket.

An event that turns out to be one of these is removed whether or not it was described as one, and whether or not tickets have sold.

What an organiser has to be truthful about

  • what the event is, when and where it happens, and who is performing;
  • the ticket price, with every fee already inside it — a charge added at the door or on the day is not allowed;
  • the bank account that receives their money, which must be their own and in their own name;
  • their right to the name, artwork and footage they upload.

What an organiser has to do

  • honour the event as listed, and tell buyers through the platform if it is moved or cancelled;
  • refund when an event is cancelled, and answer a buyer's refund request (see the refunds and cancellations page);
  • pay the platform's fee on each sale, and the refund fee on each refunded ticket;
  • keep their account details current — a settlement into a closed account is money lost.

What nobody may do

  • test stolen card numbers, or attempt a payment with a card that is not yours;
  • copy a ticket code, share it as an image to let more than one person through a door, or present a code that has been retired — a taken-back code is refused at the door by design;
  • use a bot, a scraper or a script against the site, the search boxes or the scanner, or buy in bulk to resell outside the platform;
  • impersonate an organiser, a member of their team, or this platform;
  • invite people to a team, or send tickets, to addresses the people concerned did not give;
  • raise a card dispute for a ticket you bought and used.

What we may do about it

Remove or unpublish a listing, cancel an event, deactivate an organiser's account so nothing new can be listed or sold, take a ticket code back, close a user account, and tell the payment provider or the authorities where the law requires it. Where a sale has already been paid out to the organiser, the money is theirs and not ours to withhold — the platform never holds an organiser's ticket money, so removing a listing stops future sales rather than reversing past ones.

Reporting something

Write to info@electrotickets.co.za with the event or ticket you are worried about. We read every report, and we will tell you what we did with it.
